
How to actually size an infrared heater for your bathroom
Nobody likes stepping out of a hot shower into a freezing bathroom. It’s a shock to the system. But if you just grab the most powerful heater you can find, you’re either going to waste a ton of electricity or turn your bathroom into a sauna. Getting the wattage right is the secret to that “perfect” feeling.
Picking the right power for your space
You can’t just guess here. If you’re dealing with a tiny powder room—something under 4m²—keep it simple. A small 250W to 400W lamp is plenty. If you go overboard in a cramped space, the unit can actually overheat and shut itself off. Not exactly the vibe you want while you’re getting ready. For those larger bathrooms (around 6m² to 10m²), you’ll need more kick, probably 600W or 800W. But here is a pro tip: instead of one giant, scorching heater, try two smaller ones. It spreads the warmth around better. No more “hot spots” where you’re roasting in one corner while your toes are still freezing.
The “Splash-Proof” stuff (IPX4)
Since this is a bathroom, water is everywhere. That’s why we use an IPX4 rating. In plain English? It means the heater can handle splashes from any direction without blowing a fuse. Finding the sweet spot between heat and comfort
More wattage means more heat, but it can get aggressive. A 1000W lamp will kill the chill fast, but if it’s mounted too low, it’ll feel like you’re standing too close to a campfire. You have to balance the power with the height. If you’re installing the heater low, dial back the wattage. If it’s high up on the ceiling, you can go stronger. And if you really want to keep your energy bill in check, throw in a dimmer or a timer. That way, you get the warmth exactly when you need it, and not a second longer.
