
Getting the Heat Right in Your Husky HyPET System
When you’re running PET stretching at high speeds, the thermal profile is everything. The real headache with Husky HyPET systems isn’t just getting the preforms hot—it’s getting that heat to actually sink into the center of the wall without burning the outside. It’s a delicate balance. That’s exactly why we built our infrared lamps the way we did. The secret is in the density. To keep up with the crazy cycle times these machines demand, we use high-wattage quartz elements. These lamps run at a high voltage to keep the footprint small but the energy output massive. Think of it this way: by cranking up the surface temperature of the filament, we get more short-wave radiation. That’s the stuff that actually soaks deep into the PET. Instead of just heating the “skin,” you get a nice, uniform temperature all the way through to the core. Built for the grind. We didn’t want these tubes bowing or warping under the heat, so we used heavy-wall quartz glass. We also filled the filaments with halogen. It keeps the lamps living longer and ensures the light output doesn’t dip over time. Plus, we offer them with R7s or Sk15 connectors. They’re simple drop-in replacements. You just pop them in your existing sockets and you’re good to go. No rewiring, no fuss. The trade-off (because there’s always one). Here’s the thing: high-penetration lamps run hot. Really hot. While they slash your heating time, they put a lot more pressure on your oven’s reflection chambers. If your reflectors are dirty or pitted, you’re basically throwing energy away. You’ve got to keep those reflectors polished if you want to actually see the performance boost. We build these things to take a beating in 24/7 production. If you’re noticing “cold spots” in your bottles or the wall thickness looks wonky, your current lamps probably just aren’t punching through the material. You need more penetration power for the weight of your preforms.
